Press Release 14/11/2006

Opticabase was written by Michael Prais, an Optometrist with 3 independent practices and involved in IT consultancy.

Three years ago he wrote a program Opticabase, for his practices to reduce the time spent by his receptionists filling out the NHS GOS forms and writing Patient recall letters. This has been running successfully for 3 years freeing up his staff to busy themselves with other important duties. He has also since installed it in practices belonging to friends who are very happy with this simple but powerful tool.

As there is a lack of low cost software designed for independent optical practices, he has decided to offer Opticabase to the Optical profession. For a one off fee you can purchase Opticabase and receive full support in setting up the program as well as 3 months e-mail support. There are no on-going monthly costs unlike other optical software.

After the initial 3 month period Michael would be happy to sort out any technical problems that you might encounter with Opticabase or provide updates, for example if the format of the NHS forms changes, for a small charge.

Opticabase has been designed and tried by Opticians for Opticians.

What does the software do?

  • Prints the NHS forms (Eye exam, Rx, Voucher, Repair forms), including the backs of the GOS 3 vouchers
  • Prints reports for GOS form submission to PCTs.
  • Has drop down menus to help accelerate inputting of details.
  • Automatically inserts GP's addresses and Optometrist's list number.
  • Prints full receipts for the Patient.
  • Prints reminder letters and labels. This also includes a flexible reminder date system so you can pick up on those patients who have not come in from their initial or subsequent reminders.
  • Prints the Patients details onto a blank 6” x 4” record card (This can be set up individually for your specific practice).
  • Prints GP report letters.
  • Mail shots can be printed to target patients, such as all the contact lens wearers or certain age groups.
  • Easy to use help file included.

Prices

  • £395 one off fee for use in one practice.
  • Technical support after first 3 months charged at £50/hour (min £10).

System Requirements

  • Pentium 3 (equivalent) or higher.
  • Screen Resolution 1024 x 768 or greater
