Press Release 01/08/2007

Microsoft offers Office 2007 to Opticians for less than £18

Optometrist and IT Consultant Michael Prais has discovered that any Optician in England is eligible for this truly amazing deal. As an Independent Optometrist, he felt that it was something that all his colleagues should be aware of.

Recently Microsoft have agreed with the NHS to provide Opticians the opportunity to purchase Office 2007 Enterprise Edition for home use, which includes Word 2007, Publisher 2007, Excel 2007, Outlook 2007, Access 2007 and more for a minimal charge of under £18 which covers admin and P+P (usually retails around £450).

To enable an Optician or any other healthcare professional that is included in the agreement to order the programme they require an NHS email address. As explained in the News Extra article "Now OOs can get NHS email Addresses" in Optometry Today dated 13th July 2007, this has to be done by contacting the IT department of your local PCT and asking them to set up an NHS.net email address for you. I believe that this will be made easier towards the end of the year. Please read the article from 13th July 2007 for more information. Having an NHS email address is also very useful for sending emails for referrals to GPs or sending digital photos for a colleague's opinion more securely than using a standard email address.

Once you have an NHS email address they can go online to Microsoft's NHS home users' website, which can be easily found by clicking the link below. https://www.microsoft.com/uk/nhs/licensing/home-user-program/default.mspx

You can then enter their email address on Microsoft's website. An email is then sent from Microsoft to the NHS email address that has been entered. The email will contain a link to the web page where Office 2007 for a PC or Office 2003 for a mac can be ordered at the special price. What is the catch? Well there is not one and this is truly an amazing bargain
If any Optician needs help with this please feel free to contact Michael Prais through his website. www.opticabase.co.uk .
