Networking

There are a few options when it comes to network your computers to use Opticabase. We have listed here three different methods. Please contact us if you need more information.

1. Wired Gigabit Connection. (Best Option)

Each computer requires a 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI Gigabit card. You will need a Gigabit Switch (which is like a router) and we recommend CAT6 cable for connecting the computers (CAT5 and CAT5E can be used, but CAT6 is preferred).

2. Wired Standard Ethernet Connection. (OK Option)

Each computer requires a standard ethernet 10/100 Mbps PCI card (Most new computers have one of these already). You will need a standard wired router and we recommend CAT6 cable for connecting the computers (CAT5 and CAT5E can be used but CAT6 is better and useful incase you upgrade to Gigabit in the future).

3. Wireless Connection. (Not Recommended)

Due to wireless technology being unreliable your database can get corrupted, so this method is not recommended. This method of connection is fine for internet use or minimal file transfer where reliability is not as important.
